Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University invites applications for positions in the core Honors faculty. Designated as Lecturers, Senior Lecturers, and Principal Lecturers, Barrett faculty are Honors Faculty Fellows who enjoy competitive salaries and generous benefits. The main responsibility of Barrett faculty members involves teaching a rigorous two-semester interdisciplinary seminar, The Human Event, in which students examine primary materials reflecting diverse intellectual traditions from earliest writings to the present. This discussion- based class requires students' active participation and focuses on developing their skills in critical thinking and argumentative writing. Faculty also direct honors students in independent study projects, individual research and theses. In addition, many faculty lead students in study abroad programming and domestic travel.
Barrett attracts many of the top students in the country and provides them with an enriching and challenging academic experience that prepares them to become leaders in their communities and better citizens of the world. Typical incoming students at Barrett are in the top five percent of their high school classes. Our student body is highly diverse, comprising 45% of students from underrepresented racial/ethnic minorities from the U.S. and internationally; and 19% first- generation, with majors across the University. Although Barrett operates at four ASU campuses throughout the greater Phoenix area, these positions are located primarily at the Tempe campus.
We seek to fill full-time, multi-year faculty positions whose primary responsibility will be to teach the first-year Human Event seminar, with possible opportunities to teach an additional upper-level seminar in the faculty's area of specialization. The standard teaching load is 4-4, and service to the college is 20% of the work load for this position. We welcome applications from candidates with training in any field. The position begins August 2021; the nine-month salary will be based on education and experience.
