The University of Utah College of Social Work ("College") invites applications for a .83 FTE 10-month career-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) to teach and facilitate integration of the social work educational curriculum in field, and to develop and maintain quality field education or "practicum" placements. This is a non-tenure track position intended to be a long-term position within the University's Career-Line Faculty structure, with a renewable contract. This is an "in person" position, and the successful candidate will work on site at the College in Salt Lake City.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have earned an MSW degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program. A minimum of three years of post-MSW social work practice experience is required; five or more years of post-MSW social work practice experience is preferred. Individuals from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in higher education are particularly encouraged to apply.

Strong candidates will have:
  • Knowledge of local health and human social service systems, agencies, and social work roles
  • Experience working in a social work related setting,
  • Experience in behavioral health counseling, notably in the field of addictions
  • Experience in social work education-teaching and curriculum development,
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience as a supervisor or providing supervision to social workers
  • Experience as a field instructor or providing social work supervision to interns
  • Social work teaching experience


Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary link between student practicums and the University of Utah College of Social Work.
  • Support and guide students and field instructors through the practicum experience for the duration of the academic year.
  • Support and guide students and field instructors in the development and implementation of individualized practicum learning contracts-providing feedback and approving the learning contracts.
  • Advise and consult students and field instructors on a regular basis-assisting them in maximizing the field education experience.
  • Schedule and meet with students and field instructors on a regular basis (e.g., site visits) at the practicum agency: bridge curriculum and field; build relationships; assess and address students, field instructors, and agency needs; and support students and field instructors' educational and professional development.
  • Manage crises and problem-solve when needed by collaborating with students, field instructors, other faculty, and administration.
  • Engage in the documentation and evaluation of students, field instructors, and practicum placement.
  • Travel to practicum placement settings located in various counties throughout the state.
  • Plan and participate in practicum placement meetings.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of practicum fairs, field education workshops, new field instructor trainings, and other seminars-orienting and training students and field instructors on topics related to field education.
  • Participate and collaborate with members of the practicum team.
  • Review new practicum agency and field instructors' applications.
  • Develop and cultivate effective practicum partnerships with agencies and field instructors.
  • Teach and facilitate practicum seminars in-person and/or virtually and provide oversight of practicum assignments-awarding grades to students.
  • Engage in service at the university, college, professional, and community-level.
