Classification Pay Scale
In compliance with SB 1162, Western University of Health Sciences is providing a pay scale for this position. The pay scale reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for this position. Within this range, the individual pay is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, relevant education or training, and work location. Please note that the compensation details listed reflects the base salary only.

Full Salary Range
Minimum: $64,480.00
Maximum $80,000.00

Expected Pay Scale
Minimum: $69,000.00
Maximum: $74,000.00

Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Vice President for Research and Biotechnology, this position will manage all aspects of the physical research laboratory space at WesternU. This position will work with the faculty, students, and staff throughout the university to maintain existing equipment and order new equipment and supplies as necessary to support the research mission of the University. This position manages the orientation and training of individuals given access to conduct research in the research laboratories; this includes new faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and laboratory volunteers or guests. This position is tasked with insuring that the University's laboratories are ready for inspection by internal and external entities. Therefore, chemical hygiene experience/knowledge is a must for this position. This position may also include providing assistance in conducting experiments and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
1. Experience with computer. Experience in and/or development of abilities to use equipment items such as HPLC, centrifuges, physiological recorders, spectrophotometers, etc.
2. Good mathematical, verbal and written communication skills (including writing of scientific manuscripts/grants).
3. Develops knowledge and skills for handling and use of hazardous chemicals and radioisotopes.4. Biosafety and chemical hygiene knowledge and experience.

Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelors degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field. Experience: 2 to 3 years of research laboratory experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Education: Masters degree in Biomedical Sciences or related field

Describe Work Environment
Duties of the Research Technician are normally performed in a typical laboratory setting. While performing the duties in this setting the employee is frequently exposed to toxic chemicals, and occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in this setting is usually moderate when using laboratory equipment.
