About the Position:

This role is an on-campus, in-person position.

Embedded in Meadows School of the Arts (MSA) on the Office of Information Technology (OIT) Meadows Digital Arts and Services team, this position will support Meadows with Digital Technology needs, with an emphasis on recording and streaming events. Position is responsible for oversight, coordination, and management of audio and video recording and streaming operations for a wide range of MSA events. This position is responsible for recording, editing, mixing, and mastering of audio tracks, will maintain and operate audio and video equipment, manage the editing and archival processes, and ensure that all recordings and live-streamed events are of the highest possible quality. This role requires deep understanding of the technical aspects of audio and video production, content capture, and live broadcasting.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee setup/strike and operation of all audio and video equipment used for recording, streaming, editing, mixing, and mastering of Meadows School of the Arts (MSA) board approved events. This includes troubleshooting and resolving any issues that may arise

  • Manage the editing and archival process to ensure proper post-production, distribution, and archival of event recordings, many of which are required for accreditation.

  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to plan and execute events. This includes confirming and completing any preproduction needs prior to events, including attending rehearsal and production meetings when necessary; interfacing with talent and production teams as well as Operations and any other support staff.

  • Responsible for maintenance and repair of audio and video infrastructure used for recording and streaming, including troubleshooting, assisting with equipment upgrades, offering expert opinions to decision makers, and assisting with installation and implementation when required.

  • Train and supervise student workers who assist with audio and video operations as well as training additional faculty/staff to serve all MSA units.

  • Serve the entire University community as part of OIT's Academic Technology team. Assists Academic Technology team members by being a cross-functional shared resource that can partner with or backup other academic team members as required. Collaborates and leads projects in the Academic Technology team as assigned by the Associate CIO and Director in conjunction with the Meadows Chair and/or Dean.

  • Learn new applications, technologies, and skills through hands-on experimentation and direct application and provides mentoring, training, coaching and assistance to faculty members and students within the academic unit. Enhances professional knowledge/skills by attending seminars, workshops and reviewing published literature in addition to establishing collaborative relationships with others at SMU and with other leading higher education institutions.


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Preferably degree in film and media arts/sound recording technology.

A minimum of three (3) years of A/V production, mixing, and editing experience is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate with experience in classical music settings is preferred. Candidate must be knowledgeable in networked audio, live sound/theater production and broadcasting/web-streaming. Candidate must be proficient in Digital Audio Workstations (Logic/Pro Tools or similar), PC and Mac , MS Office Suite and Adobe Audition.

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

The schedule is based on events, many of which occur during the evening and on weekends.
