The Senior Network and Systems Administrator will serve as a highly technical assistant to the CTO. Plan, develop, maintain, and extend the wired and wireless networks, servers and systems for the Morganton campus; assist in maintaining and enhancing the security of the network, servers, systems and their data; serve as an alternate representative for NCSSM on the UNC System CISO Council; and instruct users as is necessary in new technologies and procedures. Share with the CTO the responsibility for the overall architecture of the systems, the development of standards, and the integration of systems and data.

Serve as co-lead investigator for network intrusion or other network security events. Work with Campus Security Office and law enforcement to interview suspects and other parties of interest, gather and preserve logs and other evidence, write technical portions of Incident Reports, and testify as is necessary in hearings and other proceedings. Serve as secondary NCSSM representative at the UNC System Information Technology Security Council (ITSC). Assist in the preparation of the required annual reports, collaborate on ITSC projects, and contribute to group efforts.

Assist the Chief Technology Officer in developing and executing long-term network improvement plans, including budgets, based on assessments of the current network, existing and anticipated uses, and existing and new technologies and threats. Work with vendors to evaluate, select, order, and schedule delivery and installation of equipment, software, and licenses according to State and UNC System Office purchasing requirements. Coordinate with Campus Maintenance to schedule and manage. Assess newly available servers, tools, software, and technologies for use in our networks and systems. Pilot the most promising; assess and field those that provide new capabilities.

Install, maintain, administer, and upgrade network servers, network storage, operating systems, server and infrastructure software to support our academic and residential computing and communications needs. Eventually, oversee this work.
